Natalie as Princess Venus in a costume she made herself.

Natalie says:

"I originally wanted to make a quick costume for the mini anime convention at my high school. I right away started thinking about some more simple costumes that I may be able to whip together for this. Unfortunately it didn't work out, proved not to be as easy as I planned, and I ended up finishing the costume a year later."

"I chose Venus because I've always loved the artwork of all of the princesses together, and Venus stood out to me because of her bright sunny yellow dress. I loved the style more than the others."
"Ugh. Not as easy as I had originally anticipated. I messed up big time on this one, and had to alter the original dress pattern since the fabric I used wasn't stretch. I added a zipper, a golden rhinestone trim, and some pearl strands drapping down from the straps. My next problem for this dress was the sheer fabric coming off of the waist of the dress. I really had no idea how to hem sheer fabric at the time so I started researching rolled hems."
"I starting practicing with a rolled hem foot on my machine, and it gave me the effect I was looking for with the sheer fabric. Although I still am not comfortable at all with a rolled hem, I'm thrilled that I have some experience with using it, and I really want to keep getting better with it. I bought a yellow wig, tied in a yellow ribbon, attached a red rose into the ribbon, threw on some golden heels, and carry a yellow rose."
"This whole costume was pretty much a trial and error practice kinda thing. I learned a lot from it, and really enjoyed learning some new things with it. I love wearing this dress because it's so flowy and light, but I doubt I will wear this to a convention unless someone I know is desperate for a Princess Venus for a group."
"Let me just throw out that I look aweful with yellow hair too. The whole natural blonde versus yellow hair comes into play with these kinds of costumes, and I think I like the look of yellow for Venus for the sake of recognition. Although I am a sucker for natural hair styles.. ugh.. whatever. Both colors can work. lol I think blonde looks nicer on me though. :)"
I agree, evening gowns are way more difficult than they appear at first glance.
But I disagree--I think she looks beautiful with yellow hair! It definitely does suit this dress.
The beautiful princess of Venus.
